Wine

Burgundy is one of the largest wine regions in France. Most white wines are made from Chardonnay and Aligoté grapes. Red wines are produced from Pinot Noir and Gamay grapes (mainly for Beaujolais). The Burgundy wine region is divided into five districts: from north to south these are Chablis, Côte d’Or, Chalonnais, Mâconnais and finally Beaujolais.

FISHING

Our campsite is located next to a lake. In fact, it is a large fish-breeding lake of over 28 hectares. Every two years during winter, the owner drains the lake and catches the fish near the sluice, after which they are immediately loaded into refrigerated trucks. The sluice is then closed and the lake refills naturally. Fishing in this lake is therefore not allowed.

You can fish freely in the surrounding area. In Fours, about 6 km north-northeast of the campsite, there is a dedicated fishing lake. Fishing is also possible in the Loire, the Alène and the Canal du Nivernais. Around Montambert (approx. 4 km south), there are 32 small lakes for fishing. A fishing permit can be obtained at various addresses in Fours and Montambert.

SWIMMING

The lake next to the campsite provides refreshing cooling during summer and contributes to a pleasant microclimate. Children can enjoy playing at the small beach, while parents can relax in sun or shade and keep an eye on them.

The lake is not a recreational lake and is privately owned. It is not part of the campsite. The owner uses it for fish farming. Swimming is entirely at your own risk, as the owner is not insured for this. Boats, inflatables and air mattresses are not allowed.

There are many other swimming opportunities nearby, including swimming pools and lakes where inflatables are permitted. A list of swimming locations is available at the tourist information point.

Hiking and Walking in the Morvan, Burgundy (Nièvre, France)

You can start walking directly from the campsite into the surrounding forests.

We provide folders with walking routes (5–14 km) available to borrow. Routes can also be purchased at the tourist offices in Cercy-la-Tour, Moulin-Engilbert, Luzy, Bourbon-Lancy and Decize.

You will walk through forests and meadows with idyllic views, past old mills, fortresses, churches and picturesque villages. All walks are suitable for young children and are within 18 km of the campsite. A combination of cycling and walking is also possible.

There are also beautiful walks along the Canal du Nivernais and the Loire. The waterfall of Gouloux is a lovely family excursion, and another waterfall can be found along the river Dragne near Villapourçon.

GR 3 and GR 13

Of the 13 walking routes we provide, five are part of the GR 3, a French long-distance trail passing through Saint-Hilaire-Fontaine, Charrin, Saint-Seine and Montambert (less than 2.5 km from our campsite).

For experienced hikers, the GR 3, GR 13 and the GRP Tour du Morvan offer wonderful challenges.

The website of the Fédération Française de la Randonnée Pédestre lists organised walks, and some routes can be downloaded as PDFs.
