Château de Bourbon L’Archambault
This ruin, one of the largest in France, is the cradle of the family of the Dukes of Bourbon, the French royal family. Like most old castles, it was originally intended for military defence. After the 16th century, however, it was abandoned and fell into ruin. In the 19th century, a regional poet, Achille L’Allier, made an attempt to save the three northern towers and the main hall from total decay.
